About Stephen Hawking’s Synthesizer Voice
Stephen Hawking lost his natural voice in 1985 after a tracheotomy. Speech engineer David Mason connected his word-selection software to a DECtalk “Perfect Paul” formant synthesizer built by Digital Equipment Corporation. When Intel engineers offered him a more natural voice in 1997, Hawking famously refused, saying “This is my voice now.” He used the same robotic synthesizer voice for over 30 years until his passing on March 14, 2018.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this the real Stephen Hawking voice?
This is a tribute simulation of the DECtalk robotic sound Hawking used from 1986. It uses AI speech synthesis with robotic audio processing — not a recording of Hawking himself.
Is it completely free?
Yes — 100% free, no signup, no subscription, no character limits. All audio includes a full commercial use license.
Does it work on iPhone and Android?
Yes. Works on iOS Safari, Android Chrome and all modern browsers. No app download needed.
Can I download the audio?
Yes — both WAV lossless and MP3 compressed download buttons appear after every generation.
Can I use it commercially?
Yes. Label the output as AI-simulated voice. Do not imply it is Hawking’s actual recorded voice.
